Title: it could have been worse, be grateful it wasn't.

Nothing will happen to us without Allah's will. Nothing will escape us without Allah's will. Nothing can interfere with God's decree.
Who knew the stories you hear and read about will one day happen to you.
The 3 hour drive turned out to be a 6 hour drive, if we could still call it that. I was sleeping when I was suddenly thrown forward. Never thought it was as serious as us getting into an accident on the North-South Expressway in Malaysia. Thought my father was simply doing a brake to slow down.
Still in a daze, I heard my mother screaming telling us there's smoke. "Eh!! Ada asap ada asap!!"
Everything around us was fill with smoke and the smell of burning gas got stronger.
If I recall correctly, my father, uncle, mother instinctually shouted to each other as a reminder to get out of the car. "Ada asap KLUAR KLUAR KLUAR!!!"
I instantly grabbed all that I could and we hurried out of the car. Both my mother and I only got one shoe on, we had to leave the other side behind.
Standing on the right side of the road shoulder (near the divider), we knew that we had to somehow get across. Our car possibly exploding was the motivation for us to conquer the unlit road and cars travelling at hundreds of kilometer per hour.
We stood on the other side of the road still stunned at what had happened. In total disbelief, we saw the car that has helped us in so many ways on the other side unreachable. It truly has done a lot for us. Banyak berjasa, masyaAllah.
Realising our items and bags were still inside, my father and uncle decided to cross back towards the car and take all our belongings. MasyaAllah, Alhamdulillah no oncoming car was on the right lane. They managed to come back to the left side with our luggages.
My father's handphone was still in the car. He decided to make another run towards the car. My mother and I didn't want him to risk his life another one time. We are definitely grateful that we were so firm about him not going there alone again.
Because what happened a few minutes later would never allow us to lead our lives the same way again had he persisted on getting his handphone. Unexpectedly, a car at a speed probably over the speed limit came screeching towards our car. It was so loud and deafening.
Lucky for everyone, the driver made a quick judgement to drive through the right side and not right on to our car (blood would be everywhere) or steer to the left (there were on coming cars). He hit the right side of our car.
Everyone there was shocked and could only stare at what had happened. That's when a bus driver came shouting at us to move farther away from our car to avoid being swept away by further potential collisions of other oncoming cars.
"Nampak tu! Nampak tu! Tak sayang nyawa!? Sayang nyawa ke sayang benda?! Tinggalkan kereta tu! Nak kene sampu! Jauh dari sini!"
We never saw him screaming at us anything negative. It was obvious he was trying to save our lives. If anything, we are thankful all these strangers were willing to help us during that difficult time. They didn't need to be there, but they were. Giving us a hand. MasyaAllah.
Even after we moved away, there were about 4 vehicles that came to a close collision to our car. Loud screeches were heard from tires of vehicles.
After some investigation, now we know that what we hit was a motorbike lying in the middle of the highway. It was apparently a hit and run. The rider (who doesn't have a licence) fell from his bike with light wounds and managed to limp to the left road shoulder.
He was in such a daze when we saw him. It's an experience I will never be able to forget. Never ever.

If Allah had decreed a car to be behind us when my father did the emergency brake, I would not be home right now, typing this. I can't imagine where I'd be.
If Allah had decreed that a car was to be coming towards us when we were trying to make a run to the other side, I may not be here right now.
If Allah had decreed that my mother and I never insisted my father to stay on the safe side, my life would never be the same again.
If Allah had decreed that the rider who was hurt by the previous accident never managed to move to the road shoulder, we would live with an immense amount of guilt and trauma.
If Allah had decreed that the cars that came towards ours never managed to move towards the right side or brake in time, I may not be here right now.
MasyaAllah, had Allah decreed a pile up to have occurred, there definitely would have been and nothing could have stopped.
Although a musibah happened, I'm grateful beyond words that we all left the location with not a single cut. It could have been worse, I am absolutely grateful it wasn't. Alhamdulillah.
SubhanAllah. Sesungguhnya Allah maha Pengayang lagi maha Mengasihani. Sesungguhnya Allah maha berkuasa. MasyaAllah. Allahu Akbar.
Thank you couldn't even begin to express the appreciation I have for those who chose to help. They didn't have to, but they did. In all the darkness and chaos, strangers helped us. Had they not been there to guide us through something we've never encountered, we would be lost. We may not even realise the seriousness of the accident in time. MasyaAllah. Astaghfirullah.
Mudah-mudahan Allah mencucuri rahmatNya pada mereka.
I truly hope that the Malaysian government will invest on more street lights for the long drive on the North-South Highway.
Amin Amin.
